DUEL IN DIRIYAH
Nyck de Vries strode to victory in Formula E's first ever night race, and the series' opening race as an FIA World Championship, as the Mercedes-EQ driver completed a clean sweep, topping every session in Round 1 on his way to a maiden Formula E win.
Sam Bird took victory at his debut event with Jaguar Racing in Round 2 of the season-opening Diriyah double header, heading home Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) with DS TECHEETAH’s Antonio Felix da Costa a net third.
First race winner de Vries would ultimately go on to raise Formula E's first-ever FIA World Championship crown, will history repeat itself and the victor in Saudi Arabia come out on top again?
Lighting the streets of Diriyah
Last season Saudi Arabia hosted Formula E's first all-electric night race. The track was illuminated with low consumption LED technology powered by fully renewable energy. Lighting the track with the latest low consumption LED technology will reduce energy consumption by up to fifty per cent compared to non-LED technologies. The remaining energy needed to power the floodlighting will be fully renewable provided by high performing low-carbon certified hydrogenated vegetable oil made from sustainable materials.
