We drive for 30 minutes to Ad-Diriyah, located on the western bank of the Wadi Hanifah, a dry riverbed where water flows only after big rains. Ad-Diriyah used to be the capital of the Najd (the central plateau of the Arabian Peninsula) from the 15th century until the beginning of the 18th century. It is the birthplace of the first Saudi Kingdom and its importance in the history of the Arabian Peninsula was highlighted when it was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 2010, as the most brilliant example of Najdi architecture. The history of Ad-Diriyah goes back thousands of years as it was on an ancient trade and pilgrimage route, acting as a meeting point for those travelling to or from Asia, Africa and Europe. Our visit to the site allows us to admire its incredible architecture before returning to downtown Riyadh. As we drive towards the city , we have the opportunity to admire the rapid development of this cosmopolitan capital, planned by the Saudi government to become the biggest metropole in the Middle East in the next 10 years.

An exciting drive to the amazing “Edge of the World”, located on the 1000 kilometer-long Tuwaiq escarpment where the viewpoints from the top of the 300-meter-high cliffs are particularly dramatic. On our way to the most famous natural wonder of Riyadh Province.
Once at Edge of the World we can hike along the majestic cliffs and enjoy the breathtaking viewpoints. Whilst enjoying traditional coffee, tea and a light meal there is an explanation about Saudi culture while we watch the  picturesque sunset.

Edge of the World with Dinner

After approximately one hour’s drive from the city of Riyadh, we arrive at an area with sandstone hills where we start our hike, exploring a trail that offers glimpses of the past, when people used to rely on groundwater and build fences with rocks to protect their livestock. Depending on the season we may meet and have the chance to speak to some Bedouin camel herders . Before sunset we enjoy dinner around a bonfire, which offers an opportunity to hear some of the Saudi stories, before we start our gazing into the sky to marvel at the constellations. We provide historical insights about the region and traditions of tribal society before we return to Riyadh.

Umm AlHish The Empty Quarter Bride

Crossing the Empty Quarter starts from its northeastern part in the Shabita area near the Shaibah field and extends to the crater in the Umm Al-Hadid area. Umm Al-Hadid, also known as "Bayda’ Allahy," is a sulfur well surrounded by palm trees, plants, and grass.

Bayda’ Allahy is one of the most famous areas in the Empty Quarter, serving as a crossroads to the east, leading to AlQaad area, and to the west, reaching Um Quroon and Tawil Al-Khatam. 

This 6-day journey takes you to the heart of the Empty Quarter, passing through the most important wells, oases, and sand dunes. It is an enjoyable and exciting journey with its enchanting days and nights.

Adrenaline-Pumping Adventure: Crossing the Empty Quarter (Bayda’ Allahy)
